Entering India's third-generation (3G) telecommunications

The first commercial launch of 3G was also by NTT DoCoMo in Japan on 1 October 2001.
In 2008, India entered into the 3G arena with the launch of 3G enabled Mobile and Data services by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL)
BSNL is the first Mobile operator in India to launch 3G services. Later, MTNL launched 3G in Mumbai  & Delhi. Private provider Tata Docomo has announced the services to be launched during Diwali Season in November 2010. Airtel and Vodafone expected to provide its 3G service from January 2011.

3G is the third-generation of mobile phone technology standards. The typical services associated with 3G include wireless voice telephony and broadband wireless data, all in a mobile environment. However, with the capability for high-speed wireless data transfer.
 3G stands for "third generation"
3G technology is intended for the true multimedia cell phone -- typically called smartphones -- and features increased bandwidth and transfer rates to accommodate Web-based applications and phone-based audio and video files.
The first generation (1G) began in the early 80's with commercial deployment of Advanced Mobile Phone Service (AMPS) cellular networks.
The second generation (2G) emerged in the 90's when mobile operators deployed two competing digital voice standards.
General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) offered speeds up to 114 Kbps.
Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (EDGE) reached up to 384 Kbps.
UMTS Wideband CDMA (WCDMA) offered downlink speeds up to 1.92 Mbps.
High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) boosted the downlink to 14Mbps.
LTE Evolved UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access (E-UTRA) is aiming for 100 Mbps.
3G networks have potential transfer speeds of up to 3 Mbps (about 15 seconds to download a 3-minute MP3song). For comparison, the fastest 2G phones can achieve up to 144Kbps (about 8 minutes to download a 3-minute song). 3G's high data rates are ideal for downloading information from the Internet and sending and receiving large, multimedia files. 3G phones are like mini-laptops and can accommodate broadband applications like video conferencing, receiving streaming video from the Web, sending and receiving faxes and instantly downloading e-mail messages with attachments.

With a 3G phone and access to the 3G network you can make video calls, watch live TV, access the high speed internet, receive emails and download music tracks, as well as the usual voice call and messaging services found on a mobile phone, like person to person video, live streaming, downloadable video of entertainment, news, current affairs and sport content and video messaging
What is Required for Using 3G?:
The first thing you require is a device (e.g. a mobile phone) that is 3G compatible. This is where the name 3G phone comes from - a phone that has 3G functionality
3G phones commonly have two cameras since the technology allows the user to have video calls, for which a user-facing camera is required for capturing him/her.
3G networks have the advantage of being available on the move, unlike Wi-Fi, which is limited to a few meters around the emitting router.
Using VoIP is a great way of saving money on phone calls

MTNL`s 3G services -MTNL 3G Jadoo Mobile Services                                                                                             With 3G services one can enjoy high speed internet services, Video calling, Streaming videos, download music and movies, play high speed games and many more such services. The network is being upgraded every day by addition of new towers and will cover entire Mumbai circle in a phased manner.) experience broadband speeds up to 2 Mbps. Using HSDPA services you can experience speed up to 3.6 Mbps.

3G speed depend on handset used, application, coverage, network traffic and number of users currently using that point of time.                                                                                                  MTNL 3G service is available both in prepaid and postpaid plans. The existing MTNL mobile customers can avail 3G mobile services without change of number. With 3G service subscription you will continue to enjoy the existing 2G related Services also ,access 2G/2.5G services in areas where 3G coverage is absent. Please ensure that your network setting is on dual mode. Select 3G/UMTS Dual mode in your handset for network selection. You will also require GPRS settings if you are not using GPRS.

Send A Large File By Email

If you want to share a large file over the Internet, there are two option . You can either attach the files to an email message or upload them to an online storage service from which the recipient can download them.
You probably use Gmail for sending and receiving emails, but it won'tlet you send email messages that are larger than 25 MB. The new Windows LiveHotmail Service is a much better alternative as  it lets you send email messages as large as 10 GB ( yes, that's a per message limit ).
The maximum size of an individual file that you can attach to a message in Hotmail is 50 MB.If the file you want to send is large ,you can use a file splitting utility like HJSplit that can break it into smaller chunks-the recipient can join these chunks to get the original file . He can do thiswithout external programs.

Epic Web Browser

" The first ever web browser for India " was the tag line used to market this software made by Bangalore startup Hidden Reflex. Firstly, its USP is undoubtedly its support for Indian languages and the Indian look and feel (There are more than a thousand Indian themes and wallpapers ). And secondly it comes with a nifty concept of a Sidebar, which allows users to run applications within the window even while browsing the Net. There is even an inbuilt word processor, letting you type away merrily in a small section of the browser, while you surf websites in the rest very handy.
And thanks to the fact that Epic is based on Firefox, browsing speed is never an issue-and of course almost all Firefox extensions work with it .

Hacking Myths !

MYTH 1 : ANYBODY CAN DO IT
Almost all of us have seen computer crimes in various Hollywood movies bringing down the banking system of an entire country with a single click of a mouse button unfortunately or fortunately, that is far from reality and hacking into a network is definitely not that easy.Although there are thousands of ready to use hacking tools available for free download on the internet using them and actually breaking into a network is not easy.
Hacking into a system requires knowledge of programming languages,UNIX, networking concepts, and a little bit of luck ! Moreover breaking into a system requires several hours of reconnaissance work and years of experience.

MYTH 2: FOOLPROOF SECURITY
Individuals have spent thousands of man hours and companies thousands of dollars trying to reach the elusive goal of foolproof security.Unfortunately, there is nothing like foolproof security .It is not possible for anybody to create a system that will remain protected against attacks forever .Given enough time ,tools and experience , all system can be hacked into . Website , system and networks continue to remain vulnerable to attack .Even the websites of the world's most secure organisations such as the Pentagon ,CIA and NASA have been hacked int.

MYTH 3 : IT IS SO COOL
There is glamour and excitement associated with ethical hacking However , working as full time cyber security expert is quite different from dabbling in computer hacking as a hobby . Managing the security of the network infrastructure of an organisation is serious hard work . It requires hours of relentlessly performing almost the exact same security checks with a great degree of precision .One needs to be able to make use of trial and error methods ,constantly fight for higher budgets from management and call upon all their experience to be able to successfully keep attackers away. The job of a computer security expert involves a lot of responsibility focus , dedication and hard work as well . Most cyber security experts in the industry are on call practically all the time through the year since a cyber attack can strike anytime.

MYTH 4: ALL I NEED TO KNOW , I ALREADY KNOW
The computer security industry  is dynamic and constantly changing .Everything in computer security changes every few weeks. It is very important for everybody in this field to constantly update and upgrade their knowledge with the latest tools ,techniques and methods being discovered in different parts of the world .It is important  for cyber security experts to be able to devote a large amount of time to learning ,unlearning and relearning  various concepts.Research is a very major part of the job profile of every cyber security expert!

MYTH 5: CATCH ME IF YOU CAN
The Internet has no boundaries , which means that a criminal sitting in Russia can manage to hack into a system in India . Moreover ,it is very easy for the criminal in Russia to bounce off multiple proxy servers in other countries to disguise his identity and location .In such a case ,It is not very easy for the investigators to be able to determine the real identity and location of the culprit quickly . Moreover , there are numerous real life political ,diplomatic and geographical barriers.Unless there are common cyber laws for the entire world and a higher degree of cooperation between countries , solving cyber crimes is not going to get easier!

MYTH 6: I DON'T NEED SECURITY
Many people are under the impression that they don't have anything important on their systems however , what you think is useless information ,may actually be quite useful for a criminal who can misuse any personal ,financial or company data for various malicious purposes.Even if you don't have any such data on your computer ,you still need to protect yourself ,because it is quite possible that a criminal might hack into your system ,take control of it and then use  it to launch an attack against some other individual or organisation .In such a scenario, the victim might initiate legal action against you since the attack seem to originate from your system!

Did You Know ?

The first computer virus was created in 1982 by Rich Skrenta a 15 year old boy in Pennsylvania, US, who named it the " Elk Cloner " .Skrenta put the virus on his school's Apple II computer from where it spread to his friends' floppy disks and displayed his poetry every time they loaded their floppies!

Internet Security :
(1) Typically most of the anti-virus software comes with a subscription which you need to renew every year or so .If you don't renew it (or forget to renew it ) you won't get the latest virus definitions and will not be protected against newer viruses.
Paid anti-virus products offer well rounded protection  but if you would rather save some cash ,there are plenty of excellent, free alternatives that offer solid basic protection such as Microsoft Security Essentials (www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials),Avira AntiVir Personal(www.freeav.com ) and AVG Free (free.avg.com )

(2) Malware ( Software that is potentially dangerous ) is sophisticated these days. Even if a single piece gets onto your computer ,it will not only look at what information you keep on your hard disk (Credit card details, passwords etc.) but will also know when you are visiting banking and shopping sites.
The malware will then proceed to systematically log each keystroke and send your vital information to its makers. So you are basically at the mercy of whoever wrote the malware.
There's an even scarier possibility. A hacker might take over your computer and turn it into a "bot" . This means  your system will then be a part of a larger worldwide network of bots known as a 'botnet' and will be used to perform a host of illegal activities -sending out spam ,attacking well known websites and scamming online shoppers-even as you play games and watch movies, blissfully unaware.
The solution ?"Besides keeping your antivirus up to date use a firewall and make sure you keep your operating system updated with the critical patches that are released.

(3) Your best defence against malicious links is to make sure that you are using the latest version of your web browser .All the latest browsers offer stringent safety measures when it comes to malicious links.
Companies regularly plug security holes in their web browsers (and improve performance ) so make sure you're using the latest versions-Internet Explorer8, Mozilla firefox 3.6.3 , Apple Safari 4.0.5, Google Chrome 5.0.360.0 and Opera 10.52 at the time of this writing .

(4) Effective solution would be to use an advertisement and pop-up blocker like the free Adblock Plus program available for Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox (Download it from www.adblockplus.org )

(5) Mac users were relatively safe till now as the Mac had negligible market share . But as Macs are becoming more and more popular new chinks are being discovered in their armour every day. Since hackers generally focus their energies on the most popular platform , they have mostly targeted Windows users till now (about  92 % of all computers in the world use Windows ).
Operating system like Windows and Snow Leopard (what the Mac users) are complex things and no one can guarantee that they are loophole -free .
