
IF YOUR WI-FI NETWORK'S BEEN HACKED :
* Your insecure Internet connection could be shared by others in the area, increasing your usage bill. They would also have access to files saved on your computer's hard drive.* Your home computer could be infected by a trojan and your passwords and credit card information stolen .This can also happen when you use a public wi-fi network.
* Your home network could be used by spammers to send junk email or be made into an illegal music trading server over the internet,slowing down your computer , besides being illegal.
* Your wireless router password may be compromised , enabling the attacker to set up a proxy that can be used to lauch external attacks on other networks.
PROTECT YOURSELF :
* Enable encryption on your router and set a strong password .Change the default identifier of the network.Enable MAC ( Unique identifier for PC's ) filtering to restrict access.*Change the router's default password. Ensure your router's range is limited to your home or office through careful placement.Turn it off when not in use.
*Don't connect to an unknown wi-fi network,your PC may get infected or it may be a trap. Enable your PC firewall and keep you browser antivirus and OS updated.
*Avoid credit card or banking transaction on a public network .If you use a smart phone , disable automatic wi-fi scanning and connection . Connect only when required.
